Exploring the cutting edge – for the 7th year in a row!

While working  in Denmark last week, a couple of leaders and students from the KaosPilot school joined me in my annual pilgrimage to places in Scandinavia that are leading the way on sustainability.  Coincidentally, my friend and neighbor Rick Learned and his sister happened to be in DK visiting relatives, so we invited them to join us as well!

This year we went to Sonderborg, a town with a population of 76k people that is on target to being Zero Carbon by 2029.  Peter Rathje, the managing Director of Project Zero, very generously took us on a 5.5 hour tour of the incredible things they are doing to hit their target.  What they have committed to is so compelling that Frank Gehry is doing Sonderborg’s master plan!  That is a true testimony to the power of vision.

The way they are getting to Zero Carbon is very straightforward.  They are implementing a program that focuses on the benefits to the residents and businesses.  They make the green technology the driver for the economy to create jobs, develop the workforce and help everyone save money in the process.  Better health and less pollution are the byproducts.  Smart.  This shows we can all do this.  Thank you, Sonderborg.
