Denmark Continues to Inspire!
by Robert Fortunato on October 1st, 2013 No Comments

For the past five years Robert has been adjunct faculty at an international business and social innovation school headquartered in Denmark.  He teaches 9-4 for four days and has one day off to explore.  Given Denmark is on the cutting edge of sustainable practices, on his day off Robert’s friends and students take him to the cutting edge of the cutting edge. It has given him the opportunity to see the future of sustainable towns and cities and understand their technologies.  See prior posts for Friland, Samso, Fredrikshavn and we also went to see the Home for Life.

This year Robert went with a group of students to the Folkecenter for Renewable Energy.  It is on the western part of Jutland where they were very honored to be given a tour by Jane Kruse and Praben Maegaard, two of the pioneers of sustainability in Denmark.  The Folkecenter helped their whole town of Thisted harvest almost all the electrical and heating energy through renewable energy sources.  On their own property, they run a think-tank and renewable energy testing lab that serves as a beacon for the rest of the world.
