The latest crop of students from the Youthbuild program came for a tour last week. YouthBuild is an excellent program that gives at-risk inner city kids the opportunity to finish school and learn a trade at the same time. Graduates of the program have worked on the GIH and have done an excellent job on all sorts of projects, from installing French drains and waterproofing to denailing the scrap lumber making it ready for reuse.
This project is often not easy; but seeing the light in the student’s eye’s come on when they start to understand the power (pun intended) of what we are doing makes it all worth it.
