Dear Friends of a Carbon Neutral Hermosa Beach,

If you care about:

  • improving the economy, ecology and health of the residents of Hermosa Beach
  • implementing the excellent sustainability plan the GTF created, Blue Zones and Livable Cities
  • Breathing cleaner air and swimming in cleaner water
  • Getting possible grant monies and donations for the city that come from being the first

Read on…

Hermosa Beach still has the opportunity to be the first Carbon Neutral City in Southern California. That strategic positioning would accelerate all the above initiatives and more.

The Hermosa Beach City Council already made the commitment and just needs to reaffirm it with aggressive timelines in the Strategic Planning session that will happen this Saturday February 9th. It is critically important that the council members know that you endorse and support this initiative that will bring economic, environmental and health benefits and set an example for other cities in the state. Attached is a draft primer that more fully explains the opportunity: The HB CN Opportunity

It would be appreciated if you could write a note and/or say a few words at the beginning of the meeting at 8am on Saturday. There is a sample note below and another attached from Assemblyman Mauratsuchi: 020713 Hermosa Beach CN letter  Logistics details for the meeting can be found here.

The email addresses of the council members and the city clerk can be found here. Could you please make sure to copy me on the notes as well?

Sample draft letter follows:

Re: Reaffirming carbon neutral commitment with aggressive timelines in strategic planning process

Dear Honorable Mayor, Councilmen and Staff,

Hermosa Beach has an opportunity, with the assitance of a $410K grant from the Strategic Growth Council, to set a course to be the first carbonNeutralCity inSouthern California. This initiative would bring economic, environmental and health benefits to our City and set an example for other cities in the State.

Therefore, I would like to encourage you to reaffirm your commitment to becoming a Carbon Neutral City at Saturday’s strategic planning session by making it a priority with aggressive timelines that will inspire action. We will all benefit from your leadership on this important initiative.

Sincerely,

Thanks in advance for your support of this important initiative. Please pass this on to anyone you think may be interested in supporting.

Best regards,

Robert Fortunato
