Lumbering Along
by Robert Fortunato on August 20th, 2011 One Comment

Picked up a huge load of scrap lumber from The Reuse People store in Pacoima yesterday.  Our friends Arthur, Shannon and Louis hooked us up with some redwood shiplap that will replace pine roofing that was destroyed by termites.

Matt Megill, a student from LACCD joined us on the adventure to assist and learn more about reuse.  He said it best “Ahh, I get it now – you not only have to recycle what you use, but use what has been recycled for this to work!”

This is a great use case. We don’t normally know that the items we buy/use are recycled. A cardboard box will typically have the reused content printed, and we can assume aluminum cans are, but it’s not something that we have to go out of our way to do.

This effort shows a great ‘conscious effort’ to make things happen. That is what probably needs to happen to get us to the next step of sustainability.

    Great Job!
